Lots more beautiful eye candy on the bag front.... oh, and did you see those tulips in Tan's garden? Oh me oh my.... bewdiful!

Thanks so much once again to everyone who joined in the fun. It's no fun to sew-along without all of you. If you didn't make it by the deadline, never fear, you can still finish off your bag and I'll add it to the sidebar (but if I miss it, please email me and let me know).

The Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Wrap Up

It's the end of another lovely monthly sew-along challenge.

Sew alongs like this are really fantastic as you get to see an entire range of different bag patterns, featuring a huge array of different fabrics. It's a great learning and sharing experience for newbies, and even for experienced sewers.

Without any further ado, here's a little show and tell featuring the gorgeous bags... please go and visit the blog posts that I've linked to for all of the details.

You can still add your bags to the Flickr Group or just pop on over there to see more photos.

Now if you're looking for something to sew in September (eeeeek September already), Carmel from Solomon Sewing is having a Hat Sew-Along. I've signed up. It should be fun!

A huge thankyou to my August Advertisers:

Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Sew Along - Baguette

Gosh things get a little crazy when you struggle to finish a project for your very own sew-along!

Thankfully, I had a little spare time Friday afternoon and I was determined to finish off my sweet Baguette.

Unfortunately the original fabric that I'd chosen for the base was an absolutely slippery slidey nightmare to sew with, so I ditched it, and found this beautiful soft grey wool blend in the stash instead.

Serendipitously, it was actually the leftover fabric from my You Sew Girl Beret  (pattern)

One of my curves isn't perfect, but it's perfect enough for me.

I used some lovely red chevron fabric from the quilting section at Spotty on the interior, and instead of making a short strap (like my original Baguette), I decided to make an adjustable strap so that I can wear it short or long.

I absolutely love how this bag turned out, and I'm going to get so much use from it. I can't wait to swap everything over!

A new finished batch of Un-Reel Pendants

I've been neglecting my dear old blog a little bit this week, but I've been juggling lots of different things behind the scenes.

I've made a start on a quilt order (before I ran out of interfacing), I've sewed thirty metres of curtain tape to the tops of pre-existing curtains, made lots of cushion covers, sent off a new batch of Spring coloured goodies to Open Drawer, updated my shop layout, and finished a new batch of Un-Reel Pendants.

I still seem to have a billion things to do... and I must get back to my Baguette Bag!

At least with all this rain, it seems a lovely day to stay home and sew.

How are you going with your bag sew-along? If I've missed your blog post please let me know so that I can add you to the sidebar and feature your bag on the blog.

It's a beginning

Gosh I've been completely and utterly slack with the Choose Your Own Bag Adventure sew-along!

I finally chose the fabric for the front flap of my Baguette from the stash.

Then I chose the rest of the fabrics, interfaced them, and cut them out.

The main body of the bag is going to a plain black. It's something that I picked up in the remnants bin eons ago and I'm really not quite sure what type of fabric it is. I foresee that the slipperiness of it may cause me some problems when sewing around the curves (thank goodness it's an OFM* project).

The rich red will be a nice surprise on the inside.

I seem to have lost my bag mojo after cutting out, as I put this one aside, and moved onto the pile of school uniforms that needed mending instead.

Hmmm gotta get back to it pronto!

PS - If you've finished your bag and I haven't added it to the list on the sidebar, please email me your link and let me know.

*OFM only for me so it doesn't matter so much if my curves are a little dodgy

Choose Your Own Bag Adventure - Day 1

Welcome to August and the first day of this months Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Sew-Along.

If you haven't signed up yet, don't fret. You can sign up at any time during the month.

I've taken the first step and chosen my pattern, but now comes the hard part.

I need a 'toned down' style of fabric to suit more evening / dressy type occassions.... but I just don't DO toned down.

I keep dragging loud colour filled prints from the stash and begrudgingly putting them back, but I figure that if I put it out into the world via the blog, then I have to follow through.

Repeat after me - I WILL make a nice subtle toned down dressy style evening appropriate bag...

But, there'll be no resistance when it comes to the lining, and I will make sure to sew the gusset in right side up this time (ahem slight error last time).

The Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Sew-Along

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! It's time to sign up to the next sew-along.

I decided to make this one a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' type sew-along as I'm quite particular when it comes to bags. I probably have around twenty, and they all suit me in different ways. I'm a bit like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I have to choose the right bag to suit the right occasion.

I'm aiming to make at least two bags during the month. I desperately need a new Baguette, and a new Backpack Bag (I'm going to base it on the one in Nikki's You Sew Girl book but just make it larger).

If you're looking for a pattern, I have a whole shop full of gorgeous You Sew Girl Bag Patterns, but you can sign up and make any bag your heart desires!

I used my Illustrator practice (combined with a bit of Photoshop) to make a button. You can right click and save it (it's 200px), or use the code:

Here's the sign up list:

Don't forget to upload photos to the Flickr Group once your bag is finished so that we can all see the beautiful new creations!

What's Coming Up

Another month seems to be flying by so I'm trying to be organised by doing some planning for August.

I think it's high time for another sew-along, so may I present you with the challenge for next month:

Cue the brass band...

Choose Your Own Bag Adventure

We all have bags. We all need bags. You should never let go of a great bag (that's my insightful tip for today).

So what exactly does this mean?

It means that you can choose to make any bag that you like, and join in for a sew-along. You might have an old favourite pattern in the stash, or you might even have a brand new pattern that you've never opened.

The bonus for everyone who joins in is that we all get to share our favourite bags, and any nifty bagmaking tips. I'm quite sure that the Bag Designer Extraordinaire will happily share some tips with us too.

I'm hoping to make at least three bags during the month, but my first mission is to make myself another You Sew Girl Baguette. I use the one above constantly. It's the perfect size for running errands as it's nice and compact but still fits my wallet, keys, and phone. I can't stand lugging around everything but the kitchen sink if I don't need it (hence I have at least five handbags that are in constant rotation).

I'll put up a sign up post at the end of the month, but I just wanted to let everyone know early so that there's plenty of time to organise fabric / interfacing / bag hardware etc... and of course if you need a pattern, you know where to shop!

Also coming up, is Cathy's Come Paint With Me workshop.

There were still a couple of spots left at half price, so snap them up quickly!
