Floppy Bottoms

Do you know how sometimes you have an idea in your head, and you really think it's fantastic?

Well, I had one of those ideas yesterday..... so I went to work - sorting, matching, cutting, pleating, stitching....

But I ended up with this horrible floppy bottom bag.

This is one of those times where I just have to bite the bullet, scrap that idea, and start again. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

  1. I have plenty of those. And I'm always (like you by the looks) so keen to start that I skip the part where you should make it out of calico or scrap fabric first, and just launch straight into it with my nice fabric !! I do think it looks kinda cute though.

  2. You can at least take solace in the fact that you're very good at making fabric selections ! :D

  4. And what's wrong with floppy bottoms?! I have one myself. But don't tell. Actually, I think it looks cute. The bag. Not my bottom.

  5. There will be someone out there who requires a floppy bottomed bag, maybe a project bag for a knitter???

  6. I have plans like that all the time - it's called a stroke of BLOODY GENIUS if you get it right the first time - and a "toile" the rest of the time. Mostly new ideas need refining. I have a ton of not-quite-right bags.

That fabric is gorgeous, by the way. I hope you have more of it..?

  7. The colours look great though. I am sure lots of people wouldn't mind a floppy bottomed bag. It is actually quite a catchy name for it..."The Floppy Bottom"

maybe a bit of unpicking and you could change it into a small bag or purse...

  9. Maybe if you sleep on it, you will know just what to do in the morning to make it right.

  11. Floppy bottoms aren't that bad so long as you don't havreach in too deeply to get into them. Maybe you could turn this into a clutch or shorter bag though it looks nice as it is. I absolutely love the floral fabric. Is it vintage.

  13. The floral fabric is just something I found on the specials table at Spotlight. Cheap and cheerful!

  17. I don't suppose you could upside down it? Make the floppy bottom the top after you sewed the pleats down and edged it with something? (taking off your label first) I like the fabric too.

  18. I love the colors in these fabrics Cam - really uplifting.

Speaking of uplifting, my iTunes is on random and I've just come across your Chicks Mix from last year. What timing! Sara Storer is crooning away.

  21. Those days are really full of hidden opportunities! I know cuz I have a lot of those types of days.
I think the bag has alot of potential, maybe you just need to step back and come back to it later to do some tweaking and you'll find your idea is as good as you originally thought. And I agree with everybody else, that fabric is gogeous!

  22. Yes, I too suffer a floppy bottom. At least you can redraft yours! Love the fabric.

(Actually this has given me a good idea. If you hear of 40 year old woman who has been hospitalised with with burns caused by ironing fusible interface to her derriere, you'll know who it is).
