Do you know how sometimes you have an idea in your head, and you really think it's fantastic?Well, I had one of those ideas yesterday..... so I went to work - sorting, matching, cutting, pleating, stitching....
But I ended up with this horrible floppy bottom bag.
This is one of those times where I just have to bite the bullet, scrap that idea, and start again. Oh well, back to the drawing board!
I have plenty of those. And I'm always (like you by the looks) so keen to start that I skip the part where you should make it out of calico or scrap fabric first, and just launch straight into it with my nice fabric !! I do think it looks kinda cute though.

ReplyDeleteI have plans like that all the time - it's called a stroke of BLOODY GENIUS if you get it right the first time - and a "toile" the rest of the time. Mostly new ideas need refining. I have a ton of not-quite-right bags.

The colours look great though. I am sure lots of people wouldn't mind a floppy bottomed bag. It is actually quite a catchy name for it..."The Floppy Bottom"

ReplyDeleteFloppy bottoms aren't that bad so long as you don't havreach in too deeply to get into them. Maybe you could turn this into a clutch or shorter bag though it looks nice as it is. I absolutely love the floral fabric. Is it vintage.

ReplyDeleteI don't suppose you could upside down it? Make the floppy bottom the top after you sewed the pleats down and edged it with something? (taking off your label first) I like the fabric too.

ReplyDeleteI think the bag has alot of potential, maybe you just need to step back and come back to it later to do some tweaking and you'll find your idea is as good as you originally thought. And I agree with everybody else, that fabric is gogeous!
