So after my complete waste of time trip to Spotlight* yesterday, I came home and searched through the stash instead.
I couldn't find any car fabric, but I did find an offcut of this cute little heavy machinery fabric... plus the stripey fabric for the binding, some navy cotton drill, and blue felt.
....so I set about making a birthday pressie, loosely based on this tutorial.
There are eight little pockets for Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars, and you can fold the flap over.....
....and roll it up. Perfect for a bit of play on the run.
I decided to use velcro for the closure as the birthday boy is a bit too young to be tying things up just yet.
* I have sent a complaint email to Spotlight to find out what is going on.
** Message to Moo Moo - don't worry - Aunty CurlyPops will not be including your hot wheels cars with the pressie. They're all heading back to your toy box!

ReplyDeletemy daughter *cough* has been having fun with two 10cm x 180m strips of black cotton drill for roads and her cars ... I want to make something a bit more longer lasting, with traffic lights and other spaces. At church yesterday they had one of those mats with roads marked on them, but I want it to be more generic. Still thinking ...
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have registered you disappointment with spotlight, their “boy” range was dismal enough anyway (especially if you don’t like skulls and cross bones or camo for little ones). BUT on a brighter note, didn’t it feel good to use up a bit of the stash?? It looks great, I am sure it will be a huge hit.

ReplyDeleteOh, this IS great. Plenty of good boy fabric at other fabric places, albeit more expensive. I just used some lovely car fabric to make a little drawstring bag for a 3yo to tote his cars around in. Wish I'd made this swanky carry-all though, with the track and all! So cute.
