My Creative Space

The floor was mopped just prior to this layout luckily

There's not much happening on the creative front this week.

My sister has to go into hospital for a little while, so I'm looking after my eldest nephew for the rest of the week (here's hoping that I don't forget to pack his lunch).

With the recent change in the weather, it's actually been cool enough to sit in front of the ironing press to interface all of these t-shirts.


It took a while to work on the layout as I've ended up with two different sized squares due to the fluctutation in sizes of the original tees.

I'm using the blank backs of the tees to fill up the empty spaces (they're the large unironed pieces that I've plonked on the floor just to work out the layout at this stage).  I'm going to have to add fabric around the sides of all of the smaller blocks to enlarge them and to keep everything even.

I'm feeling that there's a very good reason why I'm not a quilter!

    The cooler weather has been great - I call it "doing" weather.

    It looks great! I would love to make something like this for Dean but he threw out all his old tops except a couple... as big as his tops are I don't think two would make a quilt top :-)

    Great idea! I have a stack of T-shirts looked out to make art smocks for Tori with. I am chuffed by the idea of her doing her painting with an old Nick Cave Tour T-shirt on ...

    This is going to be amazing — I can just tell.
    I don't know if you have watched the film “Eclipse”. In that Bella mum has a similar sewing project. She makes her a patchwork blanket, attaching tourist shirts of all the places they had gone on holiday over the years. It was wonderfully retro American.
    This has made me think of all the badges I collected as a kid, when I went travelling around Australia.

    What a super idea, Cam. Have you posted about this before? I must have missed the post. I can't believe how creative you are to come up with this and I can't believe you managed to track down all those t-shirts for recycling!! Great work, can't wait to see how it comes together. x

    I have a rather large tub of t-shirts that I have been hording for this exact purpose. I'm so glad to see someone else doing it. You may just inspire me to make a start on mine! :) Can't wait to see it done.

    i have a friends little boys tshirt that was cut off him by ambos when he had a seizure, he asked me to fix it for him, i thought i could make it into a pillow... must get onto that one!! your quilt looks good!!

    I have often thought of reducing my husband's stash of tshirts (without him knowing) by cutting out all the images and doing something with them... will be watching your progress with intense interest.... looking great so far!
    Think I'd better go mop my floor though.
