Owlspotting on a Monday morning

I was just sitting in my kitchen drinking a nice hot cup of tea and looking out into the backyard when I spotted what looked like two blobs on the branch of the tree just over our back fence (I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time).
Upon closer inspection.....look what I found!

Two little owlie friends sunbaking in a tree.......

They're actually Tawny Frogmouths which are not really owls but close enough!

  3. What a lucky find, especially during the day. What cuties! We have a few regulars in our area, hopefully keeping the mouse population down!

  4. Oh wow - how lucky are you to have these next door! They're such beautiful birds. Actually, you must also have pretty good eyesight, because Frogmouths can really blend into a gum tree!

  8. They are so cute cuddling up to each other like that. We used to have an Owl visitor in our back yard regularly at our last house. I love seeing them around.

  11. Wow, that is so cool! Do owls always hang out together?

Why do you never see owls out when it rains?

Cause it's too wet to wooooooo.

    Boom! Boom!

  12. That is pretty cool that you even spotted them! My parents get a family of Papuan Frogmouths in their poinciana tree each autumn/winter. Until one afternoon the other week, they heard this almighty kerfuffle, and an enormous owl had swooped and took off with one of the frogmouths! I think dad had a little cry over that one. I wonder if the family will ever go back to the poinciana tree?

  17. Oh wow, that is so cool. Are they young owls because they look a little fluffy?

  18. What an awesome find - and to have these in your own backyard!! I love Tawny Frogmouths. I remember feeding one (a mouse I think - dead of course) at one of those wildlife parks up north.

They look so soft and cuddly too. Great photos - and I have to comment on that amazing rock wall you have - it's great!! Was it there when you moved in?
