Putting together a collection

I thought long and hard about the latest fabric designs that I added to my collection.

I'm always full of ideas, and I'm very quick to start something new before I've finished working on the previous lot.

So this is now the first time that I've designed a proper collection of co-ordinated prints, and it has just happened at the perfect time to fall into line with what I'm learning in Module 2 of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design.

The whole look is busy and bright and colourful, which is just the way I like it. I hope you do too!

The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design - Week 2

Just catching up on the second week of The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design.

The week involved lots of playing around and sketching, which was perfectly timed to co-incide with my Intragam infusion (one of the nurses actually called it Instagram last week), and sitting around waiting for other medical appointments.

From the pages of rough sketches, I chose one motif to work with, and created this pattern.

It's really interesting to stand back and look at it in different colour combinations. The top left one actually hurts my eyes (which means it REALLY must be too bright), but I think the bottom right would be perfect for a dress.

It's amazing how a simple sketch can be transformed!

The Art and Business of Surface Design - Week 1

Week 1 of the course is now completed!

I ended up every so slightly behind with it all after another transplant false alarm threw everything awry on Friday.

So far, I'm loving the fact that it's encouraged me to get back to the sketchbook and just draw and doodle.

Then the bonus for me is that there's a technical workshop at the end of each week that focuses on digital elements of design (totally up my alley).

This week is filled to the brim with medical appointments, so you'll probably find me in a waiting room somewhere, sketchpad and black fineliner in hand.... waiting for inspiration to hit.

My creative space.. and super exciting news

I finished off the last lot of goodies for the Pop-Up Shop yesterday.

I decided to take some of my new designs, as well as re-working and re-colouring some of my old hand-drawn designs to create Mini Art Prints. They've been printed onto 100% cotton archival quality card stock.

I'm totally in love with the brightness and richness of the print.

But in even more exciting news....

I received an email on the weekend to tell me that I'd won a place in Module 1 of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. Out of 114 entries, they picked little old me!

I cannot put into words how totally and completely over the moon I am about this! We're only two days into it so far (as Aus is a day ahead of most of the world), and already I'm completely inspired.

Although I can't share any course content (of course of course), I can share my designs on the blog along the way, so I can't wait to see what happens next.

So I must give a huge thankyou to Rachael and Beth for the wonderful opportunity.
