I haven't been anywhere near the oppy this week, but I did receive something lovely.
My mum found this little sleeve press at a garage sale in the country. It still had all of the padded covering, but she said that it was in really bad condition, so she took it off and cleaned up the wood for me.
It's hard to tell from the photo, but it's quite a bit smaller than my other vintage sleeve press.
I have a question though - what should I cover it with? Any ideas?

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my Mum. I think you would cover it just the same as any other ironing board. You could buy the full size padding or if you have some left over natural fibre wadding that would also do the trick. I would make a casing aroung the top cover with a button hole at the back end for string to pul it all together with. Cherrie

ReplyDeleteNot sure what to cover it with - I'll leave the expert sewers to help you with that one. Love your finds and must of missed your old post about Winchelsea. I was there a month or so back and couldn't get enough of those bric a brac stores. Too much for a girl to handle really. Think its time I paid them a visit again!

ReplyDeleteshame you have to cover it, in a sense... you could just look at it! saves you the trouble of using it... :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful thing! The better fabric shops here sell felt for ironing boards,oven mittens and potholders, so I would use that, two layers. An old wool blanket would be even better. Be sure the top fabric is washed so the colours won't stain your sewing projects when you iron them with steam.

ooo gorgeous or wot! I'd go for a covering of natural linen to withstand the heat, or otherwise some really outrageous print on cotton or cotton/linen blend. I think both concepts would look awesome depending on if you want a cool calm look or to be cheered up every time you see it... x
