Food in 1974

After reading Liz's post yesterday, I couldn't help but chuckle and take of photo of these.

I first spotted them at the local oppy a few weeks ago. I knew that I wanted them, but I just didn't know what to do with them, so I very slowly walked away.

Of course, as soon as I got home I was kicking myself.

A week later I went back and they were still there..... hallelujah!

They're actually Weight Watchers Recipe Cards from 1974 (what a great year...ahem).

I picked out just a few of my favourites. Is it just me, or do the photos actually put you off eating anything (especially pink soup)?

Why does anyone need a recipe card for 'snacks on a stick'? You take your snack...put it on a stick. Duh!

snacks on a stick? hmm I could say what I think that looks like on a stick but I will refrain (and I don't want to get in trouble :p)

Brunswick Stew looks like something that might be left in Brunswick St gutter after a BIG night out and a bad batch of Sweet and Sour Pork.

Ew.

Have a great weekend!! Don't put anything on a stick that doesn't belong there!

'Snacks on a Stick' look suspiciously like kabana lollipops.

I used to have a favourite website which showed photos from 60s and 70s cookbooks with hilarious interpretations of what the picture was of. I'm trying to find it, but having no luck.

Hurrah, after much searching (using the term 'pulp artist celery underwear falling') I found the website! I present, The Gallery of Regrettable Food. Please, treat yourself to this visual 'feast'!

I've spent the morning going through the craft equivalent of those cards - The Golden Hands Books. Some inspiration but definitely some doozeys.
Love Kate
ps.I love the apron you made Beck for Charlotte.

Oh Cam... what drew you to these? Obviously not the pictures!

Can I set you a challenge? I dare you to make something from your 1974 Weight Watchers Recipe Cards.... and then double dare you to eat it!

Oh Lordy! I'm with Nikki. Make that Salmon Bisque, survive to tell the tale and I'll...I'll...I'll make you a Salmon Bisque Survivor award! Or something.

I've got a bit of a thing for old cookbooks, they're terribly entertaining. Convenience Fish anyone?

Would love to know what convenience fish is!

I have the craft cards of this ilk. I can't cook to save myself (just not particularly into food), but I saw some 70s cooking magazines in folders in the style of the Golden Hands collections and was nearly (but not quite) tempted to buy them just for the same nostalgic reasons as I like the Golden Hands stuff...

This is terrific! Those snacks on a stick are hilarious though.
