A little ray of sunshine
That's all it took yesterday, for the sewjo to come calling....
What better way to celebrate a bit of sunshine, than with a lovely bright yellow cherry print!
I missed a first birthday party for a friends little girl a couple of weeks ago, and I still hadn't made her a pressie, so I searched through my pattern basket to find this one.
This is a vintage pattern that I picked up from the oppy - The brand is Style 2463 from 1969 and only has Size 1. It was originally sold for the grand price of $0.60.
I'm no expert, but I found that the all-in-one neck and armhole facing made the construction much more difficult than necessary for such a simple little dres, which in turn, made the shoulder construction complicated. If I make this one again, I'll re-draft the pattern piece for the neck facing and just bind the armholes.
I think little Lily will look super cute in cherries!

Lily is a very lucky little girl! What a great print!
miss lilly will be a picture in cherries. and i must take you to task. no expert humph. it is divine and your finishing is so professional. gorgeous
just beautiful. I think all in one facings are difficult and frustrating too. Bet the little lilly will look gorgeous in it.
I think you're very clever, for someone who's not an expert!
Methinks you underestimate your star qualities!
And hope you're feeling better.
Cute Cam!I got some patterns at the op shop the other day and I am hoping to try my hands on one for moi soon! and the girls (If i pass the test!)Happy Lundi!xx
As soon as you said you something about redrafting the facing, I knew it - you're Curlypops Dressmaker Extraordinaire!!!!
I love the dress - its really sweet and the yellow-background print is so cheery (or should that be cherry?!).
Love the fabric! What a sweet dress and just goes to show that it's worth looking in the pattern section of the oppy, who knows what treasures you'll find? Hope all is well in your world Cam, roll on Spring! x
Wow that looks so bright and cheery Im sure the birthday girl will love it! Youve done such a beautiful job of it too...I have a bit of a phobia of zippers!... Well done! Im glad to hear you are feeling a bit perkier!
Looks great, Cam. There's a trick I can show you with neck/armhole facings. They really do give a superior finish to a garment and don't have to be complicated. ( I always alter patterns that have separate facings to make them all in one!!)
I wish i was brave enough to tackle a project with a zip! I have so many vintage patterns that haven't been touched because i'm a bit chicken
Thats so cherrylicious! I really like the yellow spotty binding, just the perfect finishing touch really.
what a lovely outfit :) nice and bright fabric too
It is beautiful!
Love it! That fabric is just stunning.
Very cheery fabric you've chosen, makes me smile :)
How cute! I love the cherry fabric- reminds me of that gorgeous book often read on "Playschool" called "The cherry dress". A little girl has a special cherry dress made for her which she loves but grows out of, it is handed on to her sister, cousin, friend etc. Maybe your cherry dress might be the start of a similar lovely story!
OH WooHoo SOooo CUTE! Miss Lily will look a dream in this little number! You're clever and gorgeous too Cam. Hope your week is super duper. xo.
this is absolutely gorgeous, i love it! x
Love the fabric used and the dress is super cute :)
