The Spring Collection

Cushion Cover - Hexie Raspberry Splice

I've been hinting about new designs for a little while now, and I'm so excited that I can finally show you what I've been working on.

 Cushion Cover - Hexie Waterfall

I wanted to put together a collection that was bursting with colour for Spring (enough with the blandness of Winter already)!

Cushion Cover - Hexie Cappucino

I've been watching Project Runway Allstars and I was totally inspired by the way that Mondo Guerra uses graphic clashing patterns and colour together (hence the hexies and the chevrons - what's not to love?)

Cushion Cover - Colour Block in Lime

I seem to also be ever so slightly obsessed with Pantone 583

Cushion Cover - Spring Bouquet

Of course, I couldn't resist designing a floral to add to the collection too.

They're all ready and waiting in the shop!

New! Hexagon Fabric

There's much excitement around these parts today as my new fabric design is now available.

I've had the hexie-fever for a little while now...

.... and I've been dreaming of a hexie dress for summer (after the 422* other things on the wish list)

In the meantime, you can find hexies in either a white base or a grey base in the shop.

*might be a slight exaggeration

It's a beginning

Gosh I've been completely and utterly slack with the Choose Your Own Bag Adventure sew-along!

I finally chose the fabric for the front flap of my Baguette from the stash.

Then I chose the rest of the fabrics, interfaced them, and cut them out.

The main body of the bag is going to a plain black. It's something that I picked up in the remnants bin eons ago and I'm really not quite sure what type of fabric it is. I foresee that the slipperiness of it may cause me some problems when sewing around the curves (thank goodness it's an OFM* project).

The rich red will be a nice surprise on the inside.

I seem to have lost my bag mojo after cutting out, as I put this one aside, and moved onto the pile of school uniforms that needed mending instead.

Hmmm gotta get back to it pronto!

PS - If you've finished your bag and I haven't added it to the list on the sidebar, please email me your link and let me know.

*OFM only for me so it doesn't matter so much if my curves are a little dodgy

Fabric Clearance Sale

I need to make room and space for new designs that are in the pipeline, so I'm clearing out all of my old stock at sale prices!

There are only a few fat quarters of these designs left, all printed on a lovely 55% linen / 45% combed cotton base.

I'm also throwing in free postage, but be snappy before they clear out for good!

My creative space

I've dedicated every spare minute this week to the design process.

I've also been teaching myself how to use Illustrator (mainly through trial and error).

I'm really excited about the new designs that I have in the pipeline for the upcoming season. Think lots and lots and lots of colour.

After spending all day working on the designs yesterday, I was totally inspired to see Mondo's winning dress when I sat down to watch this weeks episode of Project Runway Allstars

Now I must patiently (ahem cough) wait until my samples arrive...

Four Down Lots to Go

I have to confess that I'm currently no further along in the Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Sew-Along.

But, can you believe that we have four finishes already?

Little Boozle 2012

Tas from Little Boozle finished hers on Day 1. She made the Two Zip Hipster by Dog Under My Desk. Perfect for her upcoming overseas holiday!

Next up is a lovely You Sew Girl Large Satchel by Tan from Apple and Tangerine.

A gorgeous You Sew Girl City Bag by Bec from Beccasauras.

* Note - I don't currently have this pattern in stock, but if anyone would like it, just let me know and I'll order it in.

And how adorable are these little Sheriff bags by Jay from Finki?

As each bag is finished, I'm adding the blog links on my left hand sidebar. Make sure to pop on over and visit some of your fellow sew-alongers for all the details and lots more lovely photos of their bags.

A Shiny Happy Meeting

Yesterday I headed into the city for morning tea and a very exciting meeting.

After years of chatting online, a lots of lovely collabative work together, I finally had the chance to meet Anna from Shiny Happy Art in real life!

It was so lovely. We chatted for hours and it was truly just like meeting up with an old friend.

I can't wait til I get the chance to head all the way to sunny Toowoomba to visit her lovely studio one day!

New CurlyPops Website

The CurlyPops Website is now live!

I've been procrastinating over this for what seems like the longest time. It's just a super simple one page site that directs you to what you may be looking for.

After owning the domain name for a couple of years, I thought that it was about time that I started using it properly, rather than just forwarding everything directly to the blog. I should probably start looking a bit more professional from the business side of things.

I designed the layout in Illustrator but then I was completely lost. I have to thank Kellie from 74 Lime Lane for her super magnificent technical skills, brilliant advice, and for the front page inspiration (I love Kellie's Sign Post directory).

Nothing at all is changing on the blog front, but you might have noticed that I haven't been tweeting. Life is busy, time is short, I have a bazillion things that I want to achieve, and so something has to give. I'll still be posting lots of pretty pictures on Instagram though.

Anyway, I used all my distraction free extra time over the weekend to work on lots of new fabric designs. I have samples in the works, so hopefully I'll be able to share them soon!

Feather Your Nest

I've been sending sneaky peeks and random feather photos out into the universe for a few weeks now.

When I came up with the original idea for my Feather Your Nest exhibition piece, I started making lots and lots of little feathers....

.... and then when I put that idea together, it just didn't work at all. It made no sense. No-one would have been able to work out what on earth I was trying to convey.

So then I changed it up completely and did lots and lots and lots of green stitching...

...and then hand stitched all of these little feathers into place to create...

Bird on a Fly Wire

The exhibition opens tonight and runs for the entire month of August.

It's also a satellite event of Craft Victoria's Craft Cubed Festival! There'll be lots of exciting exhibitions, open studios, and workshops to visit as part of this years festival.

Roll Up Roll Up

Your sleeves that is!

Did you know that it's National Blood Donor Awareness Week?

Every four weeks I have an infusion of Intragam P (or liquid gold as us recipients like to call it). It keeps me healthy as I have an antibody deficiency and can't fight off viruses and bacteria without it.

Intragam is made from the plasma component of blood and contains replacement antibodies which are used to treat not only primary immune system deficiencies, but also a variety of autoimmune disorders.

Every four weeks when I go in for an infusion, I post an Instagram of my Intragam. Yes, it's true.... it doesn't take much to amuse me. In fact, if you search for #intragam on Instagram, you just get random photos from people who can't spell when they hashtag.

Looking back through my photos and making a collage is a great reminder to be eternally grateful, and makes me appreciate blood donors even more.

If you've made it this far, then call 131495 and make an appointment, or you can even book online.

Choose Your Own Bag Adventure - Day 1

Welcome to August and the first day of this months Choose Your Own Bag Adventure Sew-Along.

If you haven't signed up yet, don't fret. You can sign up at any time during the month.

I've taken the first step and chosen my pattern, but now comes the hard part.

I need a 'toned down' style of fabric to suit more evening / dressy type occassions.... but I just don't DO toned down.

I keep dragging loud colour filled prints from the stash and begrudgingly putting them back, but I figure that if I put it out into the world via the blog, then I have to follow through.

Repeat after me - I WILL make a nice subtle toned down dressy style evening appropriate bag...

But, there'll be no resistance when it comes to the lining, and I will make sure to sew the gusset in right side up this time (ahem slight error last time).
