A work in progress pencil roll (it's actually going to be a texta roll). This is a gift for a friends son's 4th birthday later this month. I bought a packet of textas and a scrapbook to go with it.
This is the first project that I've tried from this book. I had to read the instructions a few times at each step before it made sense (I usually just make things on the fly). I had to modify it a bit because the pattern was for 24 pencils but the packet of textas that I bought only had 20. I also didn't follow the correct fabric colours to match the texta colours. I just used whatever was in the scrap pile.
Check out Kirsty's blog to see who else in playing along!

and you'll be able to make more bias tape for it LOL.
I've always wanted to make a pencil roll. and yes more bias!
The pencil roll looks great!!! I have that book too and find that I have to read the patterns a couple of times before they make any sense, I thought it was just me... LOL!!
Jodie ;)
I made two for friend's kids for Christmas and was pleased how they turned out even though I had to read and reread the instructions too! I think I just get a bit excited and just go full steam ahead!!!Yours is looking great-nice and colourful and will make a lovely present.
Hey Cam,
Great pencil roll Im sure it will be well received. Im on the hunt for fabric name tags at the moment. Where are yours from?
Libby:)
Your small friend will LOVE it. My kids adore theirs & amazingly always return the pencils to the roll, roll it up & even put it away. They think they are so, so, so special. Great work.
looking good! I love the fabric combo. :o)
The pencil roll looks great. I love the colour combo. I also have that book. The only thing I have made so far is the patchwork moleskin notebooks which weren't hard but I wasn't that excited by the end result. I am keen to try the pencil roll as I thought it could be adapted for paint brushes too.
What is the magical bias tape by the way?
That is pretty neat - I think I'll check the library for the book. Writing instructions is quite an art - most author-artists aren't great at it.
Looking good!
:)
I want to make one of these soon - it's on my to do list!
Fun blog!! Love the pencil roll.
I have just bought that book too. Only at the gazing at the pictures stage, then lent it to a friend. Will have to chase her up as another friend wants to borrow it.
Lucky kid! Remember when we were kids and you used to covet textas because they were so special and expensive ? :P
This is looking great. A definite hit in the classroom :)
I love the pen roll! I see the finished result up above, it looks great! I am sure he will love that.
