I was able to see my dentist. The tooth that is aching already has a root canal filling, so now I have to go and see a specialist in the city on Thursday to find out whether:
- the root canal can be re-done
- I take the tooth out and get an implant
- I take the tooth out and get a plate
All three options are crappy and could cost anywhere from $1500 to $5000. I wanted to just start bawling when he told me....but that would have been very embarrassing, so I didn't!
I stopped in at the hospital on the way home to visit my sister and the twins and to pick up my nephew Moo Moo and bring him home for a sleep. When I checked the letterbox, I found a lovely little package that had arrived from Liz at Betty Jo Designs......
A little vintage thankyou card (it's so sweet)
Gorgeous Betty Jo postcards.....
.....and a gorgeous lino Owl brooch of my very own!
Go check out Liz's blog where you find links to all of her online stores and real life stockists!
Thankyou so much Liz, you certainly brightened up my day!

That sucks! hope the pain isn't too bad. Glad to here that you are staying positive and have nice tings happening to iron out the bad things. Keep smiling!
Hollie xx
Oh man, whay are teethy things so expensive???? and how can it hurt if it has no root??? I hope it works out at the cheaper end of the scale for you.
Your brooch is divine , I have one as well and Love it !!!
Ouch, ouch , ouch! It's so nasty when teeth hurt. I don't know about you but I get really cranky when mine hurt. Eating is so hard too. Hurting teeth stop me from enjoying my food. And I have braces, so I've had sore teeth too often this year. :-(. Hope yours is better soon!
That nice parcel was perfectly timed. It's lovely when that happens!
Crap crap crap crap. That's not at all good news. I would have definitely bawled at the prospect of those three options.
As an aside, did you know that dentists are apparently the most likely of all professionals to suffer from mental illness? Perhaps its because they have to deliver bad news and/or deal with bad breath pretty much all of the time?
Enjoy the brooch, Liz has done a lovely job.
Bad news indeed. I've had 2 root canals both of which ended up only lasting for a few years. Don't go for a plate is my advice. I paid $1200 for mine and ended up never wearing it because it was too uncomfortable. If I had the choice over I'd go the implant even though it's much more expensive.
Anyway, glad to see that you got a little something in the mail to offset the misery.
Poor poor you! I would have swore loudly at the poor dentist, so you were very well behaved. Is it a front or back/side tooth?
I hope you at least got some good painkillers?
Bah, I have 2 root canals too, the first quote I got for last year's one came to $3000! I went to another dentist and it cost me about $750. Let's hope the specialist has some positive news for you. xxx
Yikes. Hope the tooth thing doesn't work out too expensive.
Your brooch is lovely. I love the bit O bling on that lino you gave Liz
oh crap, that's awful cam. I hope it get's fixed fast & they make the pain go far far away. also I'm making prayers for it not to cost too much. good luck
Holy Molar! $5,000.
Why is it that dentists can inflict pain so readily, and then want you to morgage your house to pay for it.
And I have cried at the dentist recently and am not ashamed to say it.
Lets hope for some good toothy luck .
Maybe owlie will bring you some....
xx Liz
Thanks for all the toothy love everyone....the panadeine has kicked in so I should be ok for a few more hours now.....the bad breath comment cracked me up so at least I'm still laughing!
I must admit that before I went to the dentist I mouthwashed, flossed, brushed and then mouthwashed again just to be sure!
It's just so expensive isn't it...ridiculous really...glad the Panadeine has kicked in!
Oh no! You poor thing! There's nothing worse than a bad toothache, except maybe the denist's bill :( I hope you're better soon.
I love your little parcel you got, perfect timing to brighten up your day.
Gosh! No wonder dentists drive around in those fancy cars! Hope you are coping and the pain isn't too bad-great little cards and brooch to cheer you up!
Well that just bites (okay, pun intended). Hate, hate, HATE dental work, especially seeing as you've already had that work, and you have to have it all re-done! I wouldn't be going to the dentist that did it the first time after that.
If I can offer some advice similar to above, fork out for the implant. I had to choose between a plate and an implant a few years ago (for the tooth right next to the front ones!) and all the advice I received including from a friend who's a dental nurse, said to steer clear of the plate option (particularly at your age) due to comfort factor, etc. Once your implant settles, you don't have to think twice about it - not so with a permanent plate. I know the implant sounds scarily horrible... but it's absolutely not. If you want more info, shoot me a message (I've had a lot of in-chair experience after an accident a few years ago... lots of new teeth)
So sorry to hear about your tooth. It sounds terrible and very painful!!! Makes me scared though too, on Friday I'm going to the dentist for the first time in... 12 years. I hope they don't find anything as bad as that. Uh oh!! On a more positive note - what a great lino owl!
Oh no, fingers crossed the damage isn't too bad and won't cost too much
