A little way to help - updated

It just gets worse each time I turn on the news.

There is a small way that we can use our crafty skills to help. Sarah from With A Cherry On Top and Bianca from The Toy Society are going to try to find an organisation who will take handmade toys to distribute to children who have lost everything in the bushfires. Rach from Grandy and Baa had the same idea too.

If you think you can help, please email thetoysociety@gmail.com

Updated: Rach from Grandy and Baa is collecting handmade clothes (appliqued onsies, t-shirts and skirts etc) - head on over if you can help out.

Sparkly Green Knickers is going to donate the proceeds from her Etsy Shop to the Bushfire Appeal...

Hi there Pops,

I am starting the collection of handmade clothes now and will find a distribution point as I go. I am doing appliqued onesies, teeshirts and some skirts (and some softies). Any interested crafters, head my way - www.grandyandbaa.blogspot.com

Thanks for the links. I'll start sewing this morning. I'm also donating all proceeds from my etsy store to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal (there's a link on my blog).

Hi Cam,

Thanks for the links. I'll be sending toys to Bianca, and also collecting clothes and homewares in Melbourne. I'm hoping to co-ordinate a book drive, too, which I hope will continue over the next few months.

I hope your little possums are recovering - my heart breaks for all the injured animals...

If people are seeking to donate handmade toys, clothing, baby goods etc - they are welcome to drop them at Mike's (and we're co-ordinating some other drop off points too!).

We're really happy to be working with The Toy Society and other groups to help with this horrible situation.

Mike's will be passing donations on to the agency who will be co-ordinating the rebuilding of these communities : (apparently the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal will be spearheading the LONG TERM assistance to the affected communities.)

Thanks for posting about all the people that are trying to help!

Hi, I am hoping to start up a craft auction of handmade items with all proceeds going to the Red Cross, or charity of your choice to help with the bush fire appeals. I would love any help you can provide with promotion, donation or bidding. More info here http://bugandpop.blogspot.com/2009/02/can-it-make-difference.html

Hey Cam,

Thanks for posting this! I'm amazed how far the word has spread already. It's wonderful that so many people are willing to help out at a terrible time like this.
