You've gotta be in it to win it!
My mum came to visit for Mr B's birthday yesterday, and she bought me along a little something...
I've had very good intentions of entering the craft section of the Royal Melbourne Show for the last couple of years, only I just never ever got around to it..... but this sounds right up my alley.
It's the Warrion Flower Show - there are lots of categories for all sorts of things like cut flowers, home grown produce, jams and relishes, sauces, cakes, scones, slices, even eggs!
But look... there's also a craft section!
These categories are not really up my alley....
But, if I have time, I'd love to enter a cloth dolly, or a softie, and I'm definitely going to enter Article of Craftwork Not Specified. Surely I can make something that's not specified?
When was the last time that you entered something into your local show?

They've really gone overboard with the prizes haven't they - $1.00 for first, 50c for second - whoa - steady on, they'll be swamped with entries going after big money like that! :)
Go for it Cam - in for the glory (not the money, obviously) hahaha!
go Cam!!
didn't you read that Tanya (apples&Tangerine) won 50 whole cents for entering something at the local show.
wooohooo, big prizes to be won!
I thought at first you were going to enter your flower creations in the flower show - like James May's entry in the Chelsea Flower show with the plasticine flowers!
Otherwise you could always be really daring and go the covered coathanger!!!
sounds very exciting!!!
Have fun creating...gotta love the prize incentive...at least only true die hard creators will enter.
you do know that when you win (& we all know you are a shoe in ;) that your buck won't go far at side show alley??? Actually not even sure it will get you some fairy floss :o
Seriously, I think its a great idea! Good luck
Yep Cam, you have to go over to my blog and read about our local shows 'spoils' and my prize winning Lemon Butter!! It must be all about the glory- so, my tip is, focus, concentrate, do you best, and go get'em Cam!! We had 'article from something recycled'- Jack made a fantastic bow and arrow with sticks and bailing twine... I thought it might get disqualified for not being 'petite' enough, or something!
I grew up in the country and we always entered as many catagories as possible in our local show -including the vegetable sculpture. Remember winning .50c for an egg cup flower arrangement and I even used to enter my silkie bantams!!!It was the country....not much to do!
I've had great success at one of my local shows, 2 years in a row! First place in the "article made from recycled materials" made me $3!!! Yes, $3 whole dollars!!! If I can win, you will knock their socks off!
Yes, I was well amused when I read what the prize money was!
$1.00, 50 cents
This entry form looks like it was designed 25 plus years ago - only the dates have been changes! LOL. :)
But the glory of winning any category would be wonderful - a win may not impress 'everyone' but a win does wonders for a 'little self confidence boost' - it would be fun to do!
ooo good luck! I love that you can enter a "113. machine made frock".
Go for it!
I entered the Melb show last year, didn't get around to it this time.
GOod on you Cam.
Do let us know how it goes!
I spent hours (and lots more than 50c) practising my scone and anzac recipes before entering them in last year's Royal show. I didn't make it into the glass cabinet and I didn't score a place.
Such a shame they didn't have a "non specified" cookery section!
I haven't won a prize at a show since my horsey days.
Cam the biggest laugh of the day. I want to come second. Please somebody sponsor this show.
I want to be friends with the scary Nanna who named the category 'Machine Made Frock'.
