It's time for the Open Drawer Art Textiles and Learning Centre Goodwill Exhibition.
This year, the chosen charity is the Alamein Men's Shed.
“The Alamein Men’s Shed” is part of the Open Drawer local community. It is moving into a new space at Alamein Station and needs storage space and big boy’s toys (tools and other blokey stuff). With your help and through the funds we raise the Men will be able to fit out their new “Shed”.
This years challenge is to Show Us Your Drawers

This Challenge is to support Opendrawer’s
chosen ‘goodwill’ for 2012 – ‘The Men’s Shed’ – a project that aims to
supports the Men in our lives as they support us.
The Men’s Shed is a community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organization that is accessible to all men and whose primary activity is the provision of a safe and friendly environment where men are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace in their own time in the company of other men. A major objective is to advance the well-being and health of their male members.
What do they need? - well for starters the men would be looking at buying some new equipment so that they can start doing some metal work alongside their wood work. They would love to be able to buy a Bench lathe for metal work valued at about $800. Then they are wishing for an Arc Welder and safety equipment to weld like helmets etc. estimated at about $300. A storage shed that would be approximately $600 would be great to store everything in. It would be wonderful to raise enough money so we could fulfill all these wishes and more.
- Entry fee/Donation: $5.00 – Opendrawer will only use monies raised from the Entry Fee/Donation for publicity of the project, any surplus will go to ‘The Men’s Shed’.
- You need to send in your entry form to register. We will then send you a registration form to be completed and sent back with your finished entry
- The purpose of the ‘The Men’s Shed’ is to encourage discussion and communication between men re their health and wellbeing. We encourage the ‘art pieces’ to be made by small teams / groups for the same reason – these could be made up of couples, work mates, friends, parent & child/children, kids and families to name but a few.
- Single person entries are also very welcome., entries from Men especially encouraged
- Age is no barrier.
- Size: No larger than 30cm in any direction (30cm x 30cm x 30cm) 2D or 3D
- The finished entry is to be donated to ‘The Men’s Shed’ for sale during the Exhibition, unsold works will be given to ‘The Men’s Shed’ to be used as they deem appropriate.
- All entries will be displayed in Opendrawer’s Art Gallery from Friday July 6th to Sunday July 29nd, 2012
- Finished entries must be received by Opendrawer by Friday June 24th 2012. Please make sure your entry is clearly marked with your name and a short description of your masterpiece and / or why you entered.
- There will be a public vote for the most popular entry and the winner will receive an awesome trophy and much adulation.
