Overlocking along....

Well it's taken me over a year, but my Ebay overlocker has finally been switched on and stitched up!

My in-laws came over for lunch yesterday so my mother-in-law gave me a quick overlocker lesson. It took me half an hour of searching the house to find the power cord (for some reason it had ended up packed away in the study).

My overlocker is a little different to my mother-in-laws but she worked it out quick smart. We just had to play around with the tension a bit to get the stitching correct.

My next challenge is to use some of the beautiful corduroy that Sherrin sent me to make a pair of pants, but I think I might make a pair of cotton drill pants with the overlocker first before I try with corduroy.

Wish me luck....I'm going to need it!

Now you will wonder how you ever managed without one! It will work a treat on the corduroy!

Nice one!

From memory corduroy was the first fabric I used with my Janome overlocker and it didn't give me any grief. The only thing that you need to watch out for is corduroy lung ... because all the fluff comes off as it goes through the blades! I have to get my vacuum out as soon as I've finished each project.

Looking good! I have an overlocker collecting dust, but hoping to build up my sewing skills before I tackle that one... bit scary at the moment.

Way to go! My grandmother's overlocker is in my mum's cupboard and I can feel it staring at me from here.

You've inspired me. I have borrowed one some time ago and not even plugged it in yet - keep us posted on your progress.

Once you get into the swing of it, you'll love it! Mine's jammed at the moment (awaiting a service), and I am feeling a little lost without it :(

Congratulations! You are so brave! Best of luck, can't wait to see the results.

Just the other day I was eyeing off a very reasonably priced overlocker introductory course at Camberwell Sewing Center, bring along any machine and they'll sort you out on how to thread and set tension... I'm terrible, I still haven't booked in though. Heheheh.
