Ok so I must have been the slackest blogger that signed up for the Hoppo Bumpo stencil along....
I had really good intentions of making a start on Friday night...until I was lumbered with a suprise house inspection.....aaaagghhh.
So thismorning, while I was baking 5 minute orange cake cupcakes and watching the start of the Bathhurst 1000 (I admit that I do actually like watching the V8 Supercars), I finally made a start. I searched the house for 30 minutes looking for my craft knife. I found the packet with spare blades but no craft knife, so I had to substitute that little blue stanley knife thingy instead which was quite blunt.
I kept the design quite simple for my first try (especially considering the blade I was using to cut it out). M for Moo Moo with a couple of stars. I used a $3 K-Mart t-shirt that I had in the stash. I have a few more that I bought at the oppy on Friday but I haven't had a chance to wash them yet.
I ironed the stencil onto the t-shirt (shiny side down and no steam). I was amazed at just how well the stencil stuck to the t-shirt. I decided on using artists acrylic paint with this fabric fixative mixed in. I've had the fabric fixative in the stash for a while...I think I originally found it at Bunnings.
I used a small foam brush and dabbed the paint onto the t-shirt making sure not to brush or drag it.....and then waited for it to dry.

Voila! I put a cloth over the painted section and heat set it with the iron. I'm amazed at just how sharp the edges are. There was no paint bleeding whatsoever. These will make fab Christmas pressies for little kiddies!
I must give a huge shoutout and thankyou to Liesl because I would have never tried this, and I am very impressed with just how easy it was..... and a big thankyou for shoving me in the right direction by sending me some freezer paper too!
I'm off to the Spotlight 20% off sale tomorrow to find a new craft knife.....goodness only knows what I'll actually come home with....

Thanks for this brief tutorial. I will have to try this as soon as I remember to buy freezer paper - after I work out what it actually is! Cherrie
It turned out beautifully! I have been dabbling with stencils this week too. I should look for some fabric fixative - sounds a better idea than investing in lots of fabric paint.
Those lines really are super sharp - awesome!
That looks fantastic. Great job!
Great looking stencilling.
The V8's was the only thing on our TV today. The boys stayed in front of the TV all day and I watched when I could - during mudane stuff like washing and washing and more washing. Avid crafter is the only one in the house who doesn't want to watch.
Super crisp and ready to rock! Well done and I want to see more creations. :)
Considering you were off to a late start, you have been rocking it out. Looks good.
I love that you "made do" Cam. The lines do look very crisp.
That shirt looks terrific. The stencilling is so sharp - especially given you were cutting with a blunt knife!
You've done a great job. I can't wait to see what else you come up with.
Wow, it looks great! I love the design and the color!
It looks wonderful! I look forward to seeing the contents of the Spotlight bag ;)
Looks like your leading the charge now.......you seem to know what you are doing, looking forward to the next one...you will just get better and better
That looks M-arvellous, no make that M-agnificent, no I mean M-esmerizing.
Hey where did you get your foam brush from - I have been looking for one everywhere!
Thanks for sharing this... I've been wanting to try a stencil for a while, but wasn't sure how to use freezer paper (now I just have to find some) Great tutorial!
Thank you for sharing, I must find me some fabric fixative so I can give it a go :)
wow- just found this and I love it- as soon as I figure out what freezer paper is too, I'm giving it a go (you're right, great for Xmas pressies.) Thanks. x
Love it, just gave me a great idea for my Grandkids, if I ever get 'round' to it.
